- Don Hollis passion for 3D and interior design has been nurtured since high school, where he took architectural classes. Not only blueprints were what he was familiar with; Don also did illustration classes.

- Converting colors - such as automobile paints. Samples to match colors to pantone.
- Printing tests on plywood.
- 2D design goes to 3D - must be functional.
- Map must be 40% of design size; text size, size between letters has set rules.
- 9/11 modified the code to read signs in the dark; glow in the dark ink is added to regular inks.
- Own research, yelp reviews helped to solve the studying areas/space.
- Full design control to get the look and feel of the brand.
- Interviewing audience, minds of the prospects they want to reach.
- Google docs, trackable process, milestones calendered; Project managers to keep due dates on track.
- Olympics LA, Hollywood shopping center 1900's set up. Color & shadows thinking to break through 2D screen.
- Show vector logos instead of pencil sketches to help client visualize/interpreter the concept.
- Show only what you want to, if you were to do show 3 sketches but only 2 are good, don't show the third one. Avoid "meh" sketches.
- Don't do too many options to avoid client spiralize; give them a direct direction.
- Phonetic sounds from New Zealand culture to change/choose the name for something new that wasn't already taken.
FREELANCE TIP FOR BEGINNERS: Hire a good bookkeeper to do your taxes, quarterly...etc. So you focus on only worrying about creating good projects. Keeps the unnecessary worry away.
